Virginia Roberts Giuffre
Virginia Roberts Giuffre was an American-Australian victim’s advocate and a central figure in the pursuit of justice for survivors of sex trafficking. She gained international prominence as one of the most vocal accusers of convicted child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
After years of exploitation by sexual predators Roberts Giuffre dedicated her life to exposing the horrific realities of sex trafficking and supporting its victims. In 2015, she founded Victims Refuse Silence, a U.S. non-profit organization, which was later relaunched as Speak Out, Act, Reclaim (SOAR) in November 2021. Through numerous interviews with American and British reporters, Giuffre provided detailed and accounts of her experiences being trafficked by Epstein and his accomplice, convicted child sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell.
Virginia Roberts Giuffre was tireless in her pursuit of accountability. She engaged in both criminal and civil actions against Epstein and Maxwell, consistently appealing to the public for greater awareness and justice. In 2015, she filed a defamation lawsuit against Maxwell, which she won in 2017, receiving an undisclosed settlement. Her persistent efforts led to a significant breakthrough on July 2, 2019, when the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit ordered the unsealing of documents from her earlier civil suit against Maxwell. The release of these documents, beginning on August 9, 2019, further implicated Epstein, Maxwell, and their associates, just one day before Epstein was found dead in his prison cell.
Roberts Giuffre’s powerful testimony continued to influence public opinion and legal proceedings. In an October 2019 interview for BBC’s Panorama, aired in December, she publicly detailed her experiences of being sex trafficked to Britain’s Prince Andrew. This interview significantly shifted public sentiment against the prince, whom she subsequently sued in a New York civil court. The lawsuit was settled in February 2022, with Prince Andrew making an undisclosed payment to Giuffre and a substantial donation to her charity.
Virginia Roberts Giuffre’s unwavering dedication to justice left an indelible mark on the fight against child sex trafficking. She died in April 2025.
